Established in May 2002, Eco Interiors offers expertise in ecological and sustainable design for a broad range of clients from private residences, social and environmental organisations and commercial enterprises. The range of work includes design and construction of furniture, kitchens, receptions, office refurbishments, shop displays, cafes, as well as project management and consultancy services.
Eco Interiors, a member of the Association for Environment-Conscious Building (AECB), provides modern, contemporary, sustainable design solutions. Inspired by our needs for the future and built on traditions from the past, echoes of the Arts and Crafts Movement, Scandinavian and Japanese design are infused with modern, sustainable and recycled materials and environmental design sensibilities.
Founder member Stephen Edwards has been designing and building ecological furniture and interiors since 1990. Stephen initially trained as a carpenter and joiner before completing a HND Furniture Design course in 1994 at Rycotewood College. His pioneering ecological furniture has won him several awards, including second prize in the Greenwood Trust's 'Making Connections Competition' (1993), and he was one of two UK finalists in the EcoDesign Europe Competition held in Brussels (1994). He was co-founder and designer-manager of furniture and interiors co-operative Echo Designs for three and a half years before setting up Eco Interiors in 2002.
Stephen has recently furthered his training and development by successfully completing a MSc Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies (Centre for Alternative Technology/University of East London). His thesis investigated the environmental impact of kitchens.
